Meet Rock

Rock graduated from our two-year LifeChange Program in April of 2011.  Rock’s sister is a member of one of the churches that helps the ministry both financially and with volunteers in our soup kitchen.  She told Rock that the mission might be the answer to his prayers—pleading prayers, prayers of desperation asking God for help in changing his life.

Rock is a talented man with many construction skills.  In 1995, at the urging of a friend, Rock tried crack/cocaine.  Its impact on his life was immediate.  Before long he lost his wife and children, his home and everything that he held dear.  For the next fourteen years he lived a life of self-destruction, loneliness and failure.

What little money his skills enabled him to earn, was quickly spent on drugs.  His drug use and abuse of his body led to physical and health problems that threatened to cut short his life.  He desperately wanted to change, but all of his attempts ended in failure.

When Rock came into the program, he was ready.  He studied his Bible, asked questions about his Bible reading and prayed for God’s help in changing his life.  His enthusiasm for his new life in Christ is so exciting to watch; it makes all of the difficulties we have faced in starting this mission worth the cost.  Rock has sensed that God is calling him to reach other men that are trapped in addiction and homelessness.  Rock is now in our Intern Program, a program designed to prepare men and women for ministry at the mission.
